a lactation consultant is an expert:

As an IBCLC, I am a lactation consultant who has been certified through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, and am held to the highest standards in evidenced-based practice in lactation and breastfeeding care.

WHY WOULD I WANT An ibclc lactation consultant?

Research shows that people who are supported by lactation consultants have a higher rate of exclusive breastfeeding infants by three months of age.

A lactation consultant gives you emotional and physical support throughout your journey as a parent.

A lactation consultant provides up-to-date education on all methods of feeding your new baby, as well as self-care for you and your breasts.

A lactation consultant is not medical personnel. A lactation consultant is not working for you as a nurse, midwife or doctor, but rather in tandem with recommendations from your medical personnel.

A lactation consultant does not make clinical decisions or interventions, but rather recommendations for you and your new little one.

A lactation consultant can help you know what to ask your healthcare provider and understand their answers.

A lactation consultant can help you be brave in types of difficult situations, and especially if you are a member of an institutionally oppressed people (minority race, LGBTQIA, disabled, sex worker, etc.).
